Talasey Group welcomes WorldSkills’ Landscape Gardening squad announcement
As supporters of the UK Landscape Gardening team that took part in the recent WorldSkills Competition in Kazan, Russia, and finished fourth out of 19 competing nations, we’re now looking ahead and backing the four-strong squad announced by WorldSkills UK.
The landscape gardeners in Squad UK are Nick Bundy, Jack Hodgkinson, Harry Funnell and Jack Hinks, and we would like to congratulate them for being selected to represent the UK.
The WorldSkills Competition takes place every two years and is known as the ‘Skills Olympics’. The competition will feature over 1,000 of the world’s most talented apprentices and students competing in over 50 different skills as they battle it out to be named the world champions in their chosen skills.
The four young men selected for the UK Landscape Gardener squad will be invited to join the prestigious training and development programme run by WorldSkills UK after excelling in its national skills competitions, the finals of which were held at the end of last year at WorldSkills UK LIVE at the NEC in Birmingham.
Ben Blackledge, Deputy Chief Executive of WorldSkills UK, said: “This is a life-changing moment for the members of the squad. They have already excelled in the WorldSkills UK regional and national competitions, and now they are facing an even tougher test as they look to secure their place to represent the UK on the world stage.
“They have already dedicated hundreds of hours to improving their skills to get to this level and have many months of hard work ahead of them with our Training Managers, enabling them to transform their careers and lives.”
The squad will undertake an 18-month training programme with WorldSkills UK and will face the ultimate selection test in January 2021, when the team that will compete at WorldSkills Shanghai will be named.
Our Group Sales & Marketing Director, Malcolm Gough, said that the unveiling of the squad is an exciting moment for Talasey Group.
“We’re longstanding supporters of WorldSkills UK, and it’s always an exciting time when the squads are announced ahead of the WorldSkills Competition – Nick, Jack, Harry and Jack should be very proud of themselves.
“As the UK’s leading independent supplier of landscaping solutions, Talasey Group is fully committed to raising standards, skills and knowledge in the landscaping industry, and we’re proud to be supporting the next generation of young talent in WorldSkills UK’s Landscape Gardener team.
“As part of our commitment to the squad, they will be visiting us at our Doncaster HQ – as this is where our Talasey Training Academy is based – and they will be taking full advantage of the facilities: and of course work with our full range of materials and our experts so they continue to keep developing their skills in preparation for Shanghai.”
